PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday kicked up a major storm by announcing that their next CM candidate would be from Bhandari samaj, which is the largest community in the State.
Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and AAP National Leader Manish Sisodia today announced that a leader from Bhandari Samaj would be the party’s CM face.
“Today, I announce that a leader from Bhandari Samaj would be the party’s Chief Ministerial face while a leader from the Catholic community would be given charge a the deputy CM if AAP is voted to power,” said Sisodia while addressing a press conference in the city.
He further claimed that AAP would also include people of all the communities into the state cabinet if voted to power.
“It’s a moment of pride that today we can get the increasing confidence of Goans about AAP, which is a good sign,” he said
Sisodia said that for the last 60 years since the independence, Bhandari Samaj has not been able to see a full term despite being in the majority.
“Can you imagine, in the last 60 years, the Bhandari Samaj has had just one CM that too for 27 months,” he said, referring to Ravi Naik being the CM in 90s.
ON whether the party now trying to cut teh BJP votes, he said there is nothing about any party.
“We are here to give good governance for the people of the State. Bhandari community, despite having 30 p.c population in Goa, has failed to get justice. We are trying to give justice to them. It’s not about dividing anybody’s votes,” he said.
When asked about AAP Goa’ CM Face, Sisodia informed that a decision would be taken and announced soon.
On Sunday, AAP national convenor and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal visited the Bhandari Samaj office and had a discussion with the members.
Samaj leader Ashok Naik had yesterday announced that the organisation will support only that political party, giving maximum representation to their community.
According to the organisation, nearly 60 per cent of Goa’s population belongs to Bhandari samaj.
