VASCO: After evading arrest for a considerable period, Pundalik Verlekar alias Shekhar Verlekar (54), a resident of Mangor Hill, Vasco da Gama, was finally apprehended by Vasco Police on Monday in Belgavi, Karnataka. Verlekar had multiple Non-Bailable Warrants (NBWs) issued against him under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act by various courts in Goa.
According to Vasco Police, Verlekar had been on the run, frequently moving between Sindhudurg (Maharashtra) and Belgavi (Karnataka) to avoid arrest. The accused was wanted in cases registered in Margao and Mapusa, with Vasco Police Station receiving one Standing Warrant and two NBWs against him, issued by the Hon’ble Sessions Court, South Goa.
Under the leadership of Police Inspector Kapil Nayak, Vasco Police, along with ASI N. Samir and Constables Subhani Shaikh and Naeem Shaikh, tracked Verlekar using technical surveillance. Acting swiftly, the team nabbed him in Belgavi on February 3, 2025.
Verlekar was produced before the respective courts, where he was remanded to judicial custody. Meanwhile, Vasco Police continue to verify other pending Non-Bailable Warrants against him.
Further investigations are underway.
