Panaji: The AAP strongly criticised the application made by the Crime Branch to the Ponda Addl Sessions Court to cancel the bail of AAP State President Adv. Amit Palekar in the 2023 Banastarim accident case.
Calling it a clear case of political vendetta by the BJP, the party’s Working President Valmiki Naik said it was an attempt to silence the voice of Palekar.
“More than a year has passed, yet a chargesheet has not been filed in this case. Instead of bringing the real accused to justice, the Crime Branch seems to be working under political motivations. Everyone remembers how Adv. Palekar was suddenly arrested one day many weeks after the incident, even as the prime accused was out on bail. Why is Adv. Palekar and AAP the most urgent priority of Crime Branch and Home Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant right now, when these resources should be allocated to control the rising crime rate in Goa?”, Naik questioned.
Working President Gerson Gomes said the application by the Crime Branch is very clearly a motivated action by the BJP.
“The Sawant Govt has been unable to counter the strong opposition posed by AAP both inside and outside the assembly. Added to this, the BJP cannot digest the fact that it has not been able to break the AAP whether in Delhi or in Goa. This desire to jail Palekar is nothing but the same dictatorial streak of BJP we have witnessed in Delhi as well, using state agencies to incarcerate and muzzle the voice of our leaders” Gomes stated.
