Navelim: Amaira Dhumatker, Shaheen C K, Anjana Kumari and Sufiya Shaikh are in contention for double titles at the BPS State Badminton Ranking Tournament, being held at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim.
The tournament is organised by BPS Sports Club in association with the Goa Badminton Association and has produced several closely contested matches across singles and doubles categories.
In the men’s singles competition, top seed Nishant Shenai advanced after defeating Soham Naik 15 6, 15 13. Arjun Bhagat also secured his place in the next stage with a 15 7, 11 15, 15 7 victory over fourth seed Devansh Sakpal.
Sufiya Shaikh produced a strong performance in women’s singles, defeating Dimple Revankar 15 8, 15 8. Anjana Kumari also progressed after overcoming Shreya Mehta 18 16, 15 6.
The doubles events have further strengthened the prospects of several players chasing multiple titles. Aryaman Saraf and Rudra Phadte will face Aswin Mannambalath and Shaheen C K in the men’s doubles final. In women’s doubles, Riya Haldankar and Yasmin Sayed advanced alongside Anjana Kumari and Sufiya Shaikh.
The mixed doubles final will feature Sanath Kamat and Anar Singbal against Shaheen C K and Dimple Revankar. As a result, Shaheen, Anjana and Sufiya remain in contention for two titles each.
The Under 11 events have also produced an exciting lineup of finalists. Amaira Dhumatker has reached both the girls’ singles and girls’ doubles finals, with Anvitha Poojari as her partner in the doubles event.
Sharv Shenvi and Shloke Utagi will contest the boys’ singles final. In boys’ doubles, Namish Revankar and Srihaan Dessai will take on Mahipal Sinh Parmar and Priyansh Sawant Dessai.
Amaira and Anvitha will face Saachi Sinai Kenkre and Yashika Koneru in the girls’ doubles final, giving the young shuttlers an opportunity to complete a memorable campaign at the state ranking tournament.
