PANAJI: Ambelim Sports Club advanced to the semi-finals with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda in the 25th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side Inter Village Football Tournament
The match was organized by Sirlim Sports Club and held at the Chinchinim Church ground.
Both teams start with an aggressive pace.
Don Bosco took an early lead in the 12th minute of play through Roque Borges However, Ambelim responded quickly, with Aruino Fernandes equalizing in the 18th minute to make it 1-1. By the 28th minute, Lester Fernandes’ powerful volley gave Ambelim a 2-1 lead, which they held onto until halftime.
In the second half, Ambelim continued their attacking strategy, with Semson Fernandes extending the lead to 3-1 in the 42nd minute. Don Bosco managed to reduce the deficit shortly through Alfred Noronha making it 3-2. But again Semson Fernandes sealed the victory for Ambelim with a stunning curling free-kick which crushed in the net to make 4-2 to confirm the semifinal spot.
