VAGATOR: Anjuna and Vagator Locals and business community today observe a shutdown over the state’s coastal regulation zone norms.
The locals gathered at the spot claimed that the state government’s inability to complete the Coastal Zone Management Plan is hurting the local economy.
They drew attention to the fact that the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court had recently sealed 175 establishments, including hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, on the grounds that they were unlawful.
Certain establishments were in existence prior to the Coastal Regulation Zone law’s implementation. Despite being traditional structures, they have been deemed illegal, they added.
Locals lamented that businesses were suffering as a result of the state government’s procrastination in completing the Coastal Zone Management Plan.
The villagers urge the Goa government to address the CRZ issue and alleviating their suffering, pressing the authorities to take immediate and decisive action.
They also invited concerned citizens and stakeholders to join them in their peaceful protest, advocating for justice and relief for the affected community.
This ongoing problem has caused immense mental and physical distress to the villagers, prompting them to come together and demand action from the authorities, they say.
