New Delhi:
In a grand display of spiritual unity and cultural richness, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi marked its first Patotsav on February 2, 2025, drawing over 10,000 devotees, volunteers, and well-wishers from across the region. This significant event celebrated the anniversary of the Mandir’s ‘Pran Pratishtha’, the consecration of deities in the central shrine, with a series of elaborate rituals, cultural performances, and devotional prayers.
The festivities began before dawn, as hundreds of devotees gathered at 4 AM to prepare for the Mahapuja, a sacred ritual seeking peace and prosperity for all. More than 1,100 participants took part in this ceremony at 6 AM, which seamlessly blended technology and devotion, enhancing the spiritual experience through special projections on the temple walls.
The celebrations were further enlivened by the Nashik Dhol team from Maharashtra, whose powerful drumming accompanied the procession of Lord Swaminarayan from the Maha Abhishek Sthan to the central dome of the Mandir. This vibrant performance set the tone for a day filled with music, dance, and spiritual gatherings.
A special recitation ceremony was held in the Grand Assembly Hall from 9 AM to 11 AM, where devotees chanted verses in honor of the birth anniversary of BAPS founder Shastriji Maharaj. This gathering also acknowledged the vision and support of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan in fostering a land of peace and cultural harmony.
The event showcased 19 traditional dance performances by 224 participants, including classical dances such as Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, and Bharatanatyam, as well as Marathi and Odissi folk dances. These performances, rooted in the ancient art of Natya Shastra, captivated the audience and embodied the profound spiritual essence of Indian classical dance.
As the sun set, the Swaminarayan Ghaat transformed into a vibrant stage for an evening of cultural splendor. Devotees participated in Aartis (devotional prayers) at 6 PM, 7 PM, and 8 PM, filling the Mandir with an atmosphere of devotion and gratitude.
Pujya Brahmvihari Swami, the Head of the BAPS Hindu Mandir Abu Dhabi, concluded the celebrations with a heartfelt message, emphasizing the Mandir’s role in bringing people of all backgrounds together and fostering an inclusive and harmonious society. He expressed gratitude to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his unwavering support and to all those who contributed to making the Mandir a reality.
The BAPS Hindu Mandir, inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 14, 2024, coinciding with Basant Panchami, has become a symbol of peace, faith, and unity in the region. It continues to attract millions of devotees worldwide and serves as a center for spiritual enlightenment, social service, and cultural exchange.
