BRITONA: A 58-year-old man was found dead near Dadeshwar Mandap at Matavwada, Britona, Porvorim, on August 30, 2026.
Police said they received a phone call from Meghraj Halarnkar at around 9.30 am informing them that a man had been found hanging at the spot.
PSI Vighnesh Naik and staff from Porvorim Police Station reached the location and found the man hanging from a tree branch with a yellow-coloured nylon rope.
The deceased was identified as Subhash Halankar, son of Yeshwant Halankar, aged 58, a resident of Matav Wada, Britona, Bardez.
During the preliminary enquiry, police learnt that Halankar was residing alone and had reportedly been suffering from diabetes and hypertension for a prolonged period. He was undergoing treatment and taking medication for the conditions.
Police said his prolonged health issues and recurring medical problems had reportedly caused him stress and tension. Based on the preliminary enquiry, police suspect suicide and said no foul play is suspected.
Further enquiry is being conducted by PSI Vighnesh Naik of Porvorim Police Station.
