Benaulim: Sao Jose de Areal booked their place in the grand finale of the 46th Cana Benaulim Soccer Championship with a confident 2-0 victory over Sai Avatar SC Anjuna at the lively Benaulim Panchayat Ground.
Anjuna came out with intensity, nearly taking an early lead in the opening minute, only to be denied by a sensational flying save from Areal goalkeeper Aggie Antao. Moments later, the tide turned in Areal’s favour as Alvito Moura pounced on a goalmouth scramble to slot home the opener, stunning the Anjuna side in just the 3rd minute.
The first half was a tightly contested battle, with both teams engaging in intense midfield duels. Ashley Gomes was a constant threat down the left wing, and Areal held on to their narrow lead going into halftime.
After the break, Anjuna ramped up their attack, with Pavan and Rohan supporting forwards Mohammed and Marvoti in search of an equaliser. However, their offensive intent left their defence vulnerable—and Areal capitalised.
In the 33rd minute, Ashley Gomes turned provider, sending in a precise cross that Stallone finished with aplomb, doubling Areal’s lead and effectively sealing the result.
Anjuna tried to respond, but Areal’s backline, marshalled by Bersal, Aryan, and the ever-reliable Aggie Antao, remained rock solid till the final whistle.
With this composed and dominant performance, Areal march into the final in top form, looking every bit the team to beat.
