MARGAO: Putting to rest all the “rumoured” stories surrounding Margao jeweller Swapnil Walke murder case, the police today said that “armed robbery’ was the sole motive of the heinous crime.
Addressing press conference Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena said that the robbery was not planned properly which led to murder of Walke.
Almost ten days after the crime was reported, that shaken entire Goa, DGP today visited the crime site and interacted with officials of South Goa police, collector South Goa, Margao market Association and jewellery owners with regards to the case
“Margao robbery was sole motive in Swapnil Walke murder case; case transferred to Crime Branch as it is a heinous crime; robbery was not planned properly which led to murder.” said DGP
He further disclosed that the gun used in the murder incident of Walke was from brought to the state from Bihar.
Three persons involved in the attempted robbery and murder have been arrested by the Crime Branch, after the case was transferred to the specialised agency last week.
“There is a fear psychosis in Margao town. I am here to reassure them. Such incidents reflect on police performance,” Meena said.
Meanwhile, the DGP informed that the state administration along with the police, were in the process of setting up CCTV cameras in sensitive areas in a bid to deter future crimes.
