New Delhi: India enjoyed a strong start to Day 6 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, winning a gold and a silver medal in shooting while securing medal spots across table tennis, squash and kabaddi.
Kamaljeet and Suruchi Singh produced a dominant performance to win gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event. The Indian pair topped qualification and then continued their form in the final to claim the country’s second gold of the Games. Their winning performance also set an Asian Games record.
India added a silver in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event, with Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Niraj Kumar and Rudrankksh Patil finishing behind China. Tomar and Niraj also qualified for the individual final, where they finished fifth and eighth respectively.
The medal haul grew further as Diya Chitale and Manush Shah defeated Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem to enter the mixed doubles table tennis semifinals, assuring India a medal.
In squash, Joshana Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar reached the mixed doubles semifinals to guarantee at least a bronze. Anahat Singh also advanced to the women’s singles semifinals after defeating compatriot Tanvi Sharma 11-2, 11-5, 11-3.
The Indian women’s hockey team booked a place in the semifinals after defeating Japan 3-1 in their Pool B encounter.
Kabaddi delivered another major boost, with both Indian teams reaching the gold medal matches. The women’s team defeated Nepal 48-24, while the men’s side swept aside Thailand 66-28 in their respective semifinals.
There were also mixed results in badminton. Unnati Hooda progressed in women’s singles, but defending men’s doubles champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a first-round defeat against a Thai pair.
In boxing, Sachin advanced to the men’s 60kg quarterfinals with a 4-1 victory over Mohammad Abu Jajeh. Swimming saw Rishabh Das and Utkarsh Patil progress to the men’s 200m backstroke final, while India’s fencing teams suffered early exits.
