Japan: India’s campaign at the 2026 Asian Games has produced medals and notable performances across a wide range of sports, with athletes continuing to compete across the final stages of the Games.
Athletics has been one of India’s major medal-producing disciplines. The track and field campaign has featured strong performances across distance running, jumps, throws and relay events.
The women’s 4x400m relay team of Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi and Vithya Ramraj delivered a major highlight by winning gold. The victory gave India its first athletics gold of the 2026 Asian Games.
Gulveer Singh has also emerged as one of India’s standout distance runners, completing a medal hat-trick after securing bronze in the men’s 5,000m. His performances across the distance events added significantly to India’s athletics tally.
Parul Chaudhary contributed two bronze medals, finishing third in both the women’s 3,000m steeplechase and 5,000m. Pooja Singh also secured bronze in the women’s high jump, ending India’s long wait for a medal in the event at the Asian Games.
India has also collected athletics medals across events including the 10,000m, shot put, long jump, high jump, decathlon, pole vault, javelin, hurdles and relay races, making athletics one of the most important contributors to the country’s overall campaign.
Archery has provided another major boost in the latest round of competition. India’s compound archers delivered back-to-back gold medals, with the women’s team and mixed team both reaching the top of the podium.
Shooting has once again been one of India’s biggest medal contributors, with Indian shooters collecting medals across rifle, pistol and shotgun events.
Kabaddi has also delivered gold for India, with the men’s and women’s teams adding titles to the country’s medal tally.
Cricket has contributed a gold medal, with India’s women’s team securing the top prize. The men’s competition has also featured India in the knockout stage.
Squash has produced multiple strong performances, with Indian players and teams remaining in medal contention across the competition.
Badminton and table tennis have also featured prominently, with Indian players competing across team and individual events.
India has additionally competed in boxing, wrestling, hockey, rowing, weightlifting, wushu, judo, cycling, canoeing, sailing, golf and other disciplines, producing medals and advancing into later stages in several events.
In wrestling, Sunil Kumar competed in the men’s Greco-Roman 87kg category while Nisha Dahiya featured in the women’s 68kg freestyle division. Boxing has also seen Indian athletes progress deep into the competition, while India’s hockey teams remain among the country’s key medal contenders.
With several events still being completed, India’s medal tally continues to change. The broad spread of medals across athletics, shooting, archery, kabaddi, cricket, badminton, squash, wrestling, boxing and other sports highlights the depth of India’s participation at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
The Asian Games continue until October 4, leaving Indian athletes with further opportunities to add to the country’s medal haul.
