VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Tuesday morning appealed to the people to avoid agents and contact Municipal offices directly for any works related to the MMC.
MMC chairperson Girish borkar speaking to the media said that the Council would initiate the most stringent action if any person indulged in Malpractices or misdeeds thereby cheating people while claiming as Municipal Council agents
The statements by the chairperson Girish Borkar came after news broke out on social media of an alleged scam where money was taken from a person who was a senior citizen and he was provided with the fake receipt of House tax payment by a person who claimed to be an Agent
“I have seen some news on social media about some scam for the last three days and when I checked with our staff, I found nothing of that sort but I want to appeal to the public to avoid any Agent and approach the municipality officials directly instead. The MMC will not allow nor tolerate any agents who are offering to help people with payments or filling up of forms for money,” he said.
If any person finds any difficulty, he can approach me of the Chief officer directly and we will guide the person or ask our staff to help them but they should not go to agents because later the same people will spoil the name of MMC, said Borkar.
“No one has approached us as yet with any complain about the scam and we will initiate the most stringent action on anyone indulging in Malpractices or misdeeds thereby cheating people while claiming as Municipal Council agents,” he said.
Borkar added they have a very capable set of staff who are willing to help the people and when it comes to payments, the MMC has many options available for people that includes Cash, Cheques, Bank Debit Cards or even QR Code.
“I want to only appeal to the people not to approach any agents because when things go wrong with the agents, the people tend to spread misleading facts which fuel rumours and ultimately tarnish the image of the MMC,” said Borker.
