PONDA: The Crime Branch’s request to withdraw Amit Palekar’s bail—one of the three suspects in the Banastarim tragic accident case—will be heard by the Additional Sessions Court on Monday.
Palekar is a politician and lawyer. The CB said that he spent four times overseas in violation of the terms set forth by the court when it granted him bail last year.
Palekar’s attorney, Advocate Nitin Sardesai, contended at the second hearing on Friday that the accusations were politically motivated and that his client had previously criticized the police, which may have been the reason behind their targeting.
Sardesai went on to say that Palekar had all the legal authorization to travel, and that the bail order simply needed court approval to leave India—it made no mention of other nations.
He said, “There was no breach of the bail requirements, and the CB had not objected at the time when Palekar moved an application seeking permission for travel.”
The court has set aside Monday to render a decision.
