New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to conduct a comprehensive review of the Indian men’s T20I team following its disappointing series defeat against England, with reports suggesting that both the players and coaching staff will be evaluated.
The review comes after England sealed the five match series 3-0 with a commanding nine wicket victory in the fourth T20I at Bristol, handing India its second consecutive bilateral T20I series defeat.
According to reports, the BCCI plans to examine the team’s recent performances in detail, with head coach Gautam Gambhir’s tenure also expected to come under scrutiny despite his contract running until 2027. The reported review follows a string of disappointing results that have raised concerns over the team’s form after winning the 2026 T20 World Cup.
India, under newly appointed captain Shreyas Iyer, has struggled since the leadership transition. Before the England tour, the team suffered its first ever T20I series defeat against Ireland, losing the two match contest 2-0. The England series defeat now marks India’s second successive bilateral T20I series loss.
England’s latest victory also ended India’s long standing dominance in the format, with the hosts registering their first bilateral T20I series win over India in a contest comprising more than two matches.
In the fourth T20I, India posted 158 for 7 after being asked to bat first, with captain Shreyas Iyer fighting a lone battle through an unbeaten 80 off 49 balls. However, the rest of the batting lineup failed to provide meaningful support.
England chased down the target in just 13.5 overs, powered by captain Harry Brook’s unbeaten 79 off 35 deliveries and Phil Salt’s 59 off 42 balls. Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue claimed two wickets each to restrict India before the batting unit completed a dominant chase.
India will now aim to avoid a series whitewash in the final T20I, while England will look to complete a comprehensive victory and finish the series unbeaten.
