On Wednesday, Rohit Monserrate was re-elected as Mayor of Corporation of the City of Panaji for the 4th consecutive term while Sanjeev Naik was re-elected as Deputy Mayor for 3rd term.
Both Monserrate and Naik were re-elected unopposed during the elections held today.
While the news did not come as a surprise for the Panaji residents as with burite majority and his father being the MLA of Panaji and minister in the Dr Pramod Sawant led Cabinet, there is currently no power that can dislodge him as the Mayor.
However, the surprise was Panjimites was when he said, |“I want to finish up all works that had been taken up and pending in my third term. Also the new building of CCP will be completed. We want the corporation to be fully self-sufficient”.
He further said that CCP wants to resolve the issue and complete third phase of Panaji market.
“Want to make CCP self sufficient; we have to reach a point i.e to lower taxes for the whole; to do that I have to take control of all the properties currently, all our properties have been in some litigation or other” he added.
Well bro, after ruling for three terms and your father ruling the city for two terms and ruling the CCP since 2001 if you r family could not make Panaji self-sufficient for two decades , can we expect that to happen in the next one year or maybe the next 10 years?
The fact is, CCP has become a Reserve bank of Indi for many which is printing notes in crores everyday.
Nobody is concerned about the well-being of the people, the infrastructure or the facilities in the city.
So while the politicians make merry, the city moves on without any complaints.
Of course, the Monserattes have washed off their hands from the Smart city works saying it is being looked upon by all others except them. They blame the Chief Secretary, the Chief Minister and the IPSCDL Managing Directror Sanjit Rodrigues but not themselves. Simply because they have nothing to do with it.
Agreed, the mess was created by his predecessors and they had nothing to do with it, they say.
But they got elected to the position only promisi9ng they would solve the problems of the people of the city. Can they ignore people’s issues in such a way saying this?
If the government and the Chief Minister is not listening or solving their issues why don’t they step down as the minister in the Cabinet and the Mayor of the Corporation.
All three family members – Babush Monseratte, Minister for Revenue, Jennifer Monseratte, Member Secretary NGPDA and now Rohit, Mayor-CCP, enjoy big positions, so what stops them from solving the issues of the Panjimites, who are gasping for breath today despite the trio enjoying brute power.
Who is to be blamed for this situation, is it not the MLA and the Mayor?
So Rohit Monseratte’s promise of making CCP self-sufficient needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. If nothing has happened for three terms, we do not expect anything to happen in next two also.
