Bicholim witnessed a huge crowd on Monday after a gap of two-years of pandemic as Bicholkar’s recently celebrated the ‘new Monday’ of deity Shantadurga. Devotees across the State thronged to the temple to take the blessings of deity.
New Monday locally termed as ‘navo somar’ is celebrated on the very first Monday in the month of Margashirsha as per the Hindu calendar. The streets of Bicholim came lively with shops of sweets and various other shops after a long gap of two years, said Darshana Bordekar.
On new Monday, deties palanquin visits every house of the village to give blessings to the family.
The palanquin then takes a round in the village on every Monday after the New Monday, till Vatpornima,said Bordekar.
Yet another villager Krupesh Nevgi said the new Monday is equivalent to new year for the people of Bicholim. On this ocasssion, temple of deity Shantadurga including all the villages of Bicholim taluka were illuminated with lights and decorated with flowers.
