The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee slammed the attempts of granting urban status to Calangute saying BJP Government in Goa is finding way and means to somehow sell this beautiful land to the Crony Club of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The attempt of Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo to give Urban Status to Village of Calangute is the first step in that direction,” said Arch. Tulio De Souza.
He said the people of Calangute are not consulted by the local MLA. Calangutkars are not at all interested in getting this status of Urban Area, as the same will be disastrous to the unique identity of the beautiful coastal village.
Tulio De Souza said that it was only after strong opposition of the Congress Party with the support of the people that the Government was forced to cancel the gazette notification of 30th January 2020 of including 56 villages under Urban Area. After the pressure mounted, Government cancelled the said notification on 18th February 2020.
“We want to know what changed from February 2020 to 27th May 2021 for the BJP government to issue a fresh notification to include only Village of Calangute as Urban Area,” questioned De Souza.
Tulio demanded that Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant must immediately withdraw the new notification issued on 27th May 2021 failing which Congress Party will launch a strong agitation with the support of Calangute residents and compel government to cancel the notification.
“Congress Party will continue to be the Voice of the People and no one will ever succeed in supressing our voices,” he said.
