VASCO: The Bogmalo Panchayat has shifted to nearby Anganwadi centre after the works on the demolition of the old Panchayat Ghar began on Monday
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale said that a new Panchayat Ghar ( ground plus three floors ) building will come up at the same place and the works on the project will start soon
“The old panchayat Ghar was constructed in 2004 and we have demolished the structure to create a new state-of-the-art Panchayat Ghar. The new Panchayat Ghar was proposed by our MLA and Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho and it will be taken under the Deen Dayal Panchayat Infrastructure Scheme which has already approved 3 crores and Godinho has also approved an additional Rs 50 lakhs under special approval,” said sarpanch.
He said the land owner Costa family has also helped us by making the land available to us during the tenure of previous Sarpanch Lorena Cunha.
“The family gifted us 750 sq mtrs of this land while we purchased another 280 sq mtrs land from the family with the help of Philanthropist and Industrialist Suvarna Bandekar who helped us with Rs 10 lakhs under CSR. We obtained all the permissions from all competent authorities including CRZ, Navy and MPDA for the new Panchayat Ghar and only then began the works of demolition of this Panchayat Ghar,” he stated.
“We are a low-income panchayat and the Sarpanch of neighbouring Chicalim Panchayat Kamla Prasad Yadav has helped us to carry out the demolition works of the Panchayat Ghar. We have already shown the villagers our entire plan for the new ground plus three Panchayat Ghar which will have shops in the basement, a Panchayat office on the first floor, a library and Gym on the second floor and a community hall on the third floor. We are carrying out the demolition of the Panchayat Ghar and clearing the area for landscaping after which the works will begin on the new Panchayat Ghar,” said Mahale.
He said he has made a detailed plan and the DPR report is also ready after which the tender for works will be floated.
“We have also appointed a consultant Datta Kare for the entire project and before the works start, other things like soil testing etc will be done. We will soon lay the foundation stone and the works will commence. As of now, we have shifted our panchayat to the nearby Anganwadi centre on the Primary school premises,” he said.
The UCO Bank housed in the Panchayat Ghar has been shifted to the Gallint area of Bogmalo.
“We also had a post office and that is also shifted to the Anganwadi centre. We have shifted on Saturday and the process will be streamlined in a matter of three to four days. As per the tender procedure, the works on the new Panchayat Ghar will start in a maximum of two months and will be completed in around two years’ time. We may have to adjust the space during Gramsabhas or may be moved to every ward and have Gramsabha in open spaces till the new Panchayat Ghar is built. We are as of now planning to have a gym, library and hall in the new building and we are also trying to see if we can accommodate a health centre, electricity department and other facilities in the new building so that we can offer a one-stop solution and offer all services at one single building for the villagers,” said Mahale.
