TIRACOL: Remanded to five days in police detention is police inspector Vidyesh Pilgaonkar, who was in charge of the Tiracol coastal police station at the time and was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance’s Anti-Corrupt-tion Branch (ACB) in connection with a bribery case.
Pilgaonkar is the third police officer detained in connection with the corruption case, in which a paragliding operator in North Goa was legally required to pay a monthly bribe of Rs 8,000 in order for the business to run successfully.
According to sources, Pilgaonkar oversaw the Tiracol coastal police station during the time that the claimed monthly bribe was being negotiated. However, Pilgaonkar was moved to the GRP at Altinho-Panaji last month as a result of a general transfer order.
A few days prior, Udayraj, also known as Rajumohan Kalangutkar, and Sanjay Talkar, the head constables of the Tiracol Coastal Police Station, were taken into custody by the ACB. Both were under investigation in relation to the case.
