MAPUSA: Calangute Veterans defeated Arambol Vailankani Veterans 7-1 to move ahead in the 1st All Goa Agnel (Sulcar) Memorial Cup (Veterans Football Tournament organized by Calangute Veterans, held at Poriat ground, Calangute.
Both teams started cautiously in the first session and created many chances.
However, the deadlock was broken by Calangute in the first half through Seby.
The goal brought the match to life as Calangute veterans got a good boost. Calangute had their plans and waited patiently to strike again, and they got their second later again through Seby, and the latter Alwyn Fernandes scored another, giving Calangute a 3-goal lead again. Robert scored another one giving Calangute a 4-goal lead and bringing the first half to a close.
In the second half, Arambol Veterans found some great form, scoring the first goal through Prem. Some defensive blunders by Calangute veterans again helped them to capitalize, and they managed to score their first goal. Calangute Veterans strikers again, and they managed to score another three goals in the second half, eventually winning the match. Amit from Arambol veterans was awarded the man of the the-match award by the former sarpanch of Calangute Anthony Menezes.
