DABOLIM: Cargo operations at Goa International Airport in Dabolim have been severely disrupted following the prolonged non-functioning of X-ray screening equipment at its domestic and international cargo terminals.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the scanners have remained non-operational for a considerable period, effectively putting cargo clearances on hold and causing inconvenience to businesses and trade operators dependent on the airport’s freight facilities.
“X-ray scanners of domestic and international terminals of Goa International Airport cargo sections in Dabolim have been non-functional for quite some time, keeping on hold the cargo clearance and causing inconvenience to citizens while also leading to revenue losses,” a source said.
The disruption has reportedly forced authorities and logistics operators to divert cargo to Manohar International Airport at Mopa to facilitate clearances and prevent further delays.
Industry sources said at least four tonnes of freight have already been diverted to Mopa, particularly to avoid delays involving sensitive and time-critical consignments.
The prolonged equipment failure has raised concerns among exporters, logistics companies and trade operators, who fear that continued disruption could result in financial losses and affect the reliability of Goa’s cargo infrastructure.
The situation has also raised questions over the availability of contingency arrangements for cargo screening at Dabolim in the event of prolonged equipment failure.
Airport authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the cause of the scanner malfunction or indicated when the equipment is expected to be repaired or replaced.
