PORVORIM: A case of alleged animal cruelty has been registered following a hit-and-run incident that left a community dog seriously injured near Hotel Neo Majestic in Porvorim.
According to police, the complaint was filed by Stephen Samuel, Field Officer of the District Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals, residing at Tonca, Caranzalem, Panaji.
The complainant stated that on April 22, 2026, at around 7.30 pm, an unidentified driver of an unknown vehicle was proceeding from the internal road near Hotel Neo Majestic towards the main road when the vehicle was allegedly driven in a rash and negligent manner.
Police said the vehicle reportedly hit a community dog about 300 metres away from the hotel, causing grievous injuries to the animal. The accused driver allegedly fled the spot without providing any medical care or attention to the injured dog.
A case has been registered for subjecting the animal to cruelty, and further investigation is in progress.
