Marcel: The Chikhal Kalo Mud Festival 2024 commenced with great enthusiasm and fervour at the Shree Devki Krishna Temple in Marcel, Goa. The formal inauguration ceremony was graced by Shri. Rohan. A Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, and Printing and Stationary; Shri. Govind Gaude, Hon’ble Minister for Art & Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs, RDA, Govt. of Goa; and Shri. Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director, Department of Tourism, Govt. of Goa.
Rohan. A Khaunte, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism*, added, “Festivals like these not only promote tourism but also serve as a unifying force within our community, bringing people together to celebrate our rich traditions. I encourage everyone to participate actively and immerse themselves in the beauty and diversity of Goan culture, as these experiences strengthen our identity and showcase the essence of Goa to the world.”
In his address, Minister of Art & Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs, RDA, Govt. Of Goa, Govind Gaude stated, “Chikhal Kalo Mud Festival is steeped in Goa’s rich cultural heritage and represents the vibrant community of Goa. It is a pleasure to witness the celebration that brings the community together and fosters community spirit and pride. The Department of Tourism has provided its unwavering support in organizing such meaningful celebrations that not only entertain but also preserve and promote our traditions for future generations. ”
Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Director Tourism & Managing Director GTDC, remarked, “The Chikhal Kalo Mud Festival is an excellent platform to showcase the uniqueness of Goan traditions and the creativity of our local artisans. We are committed to supporting initiatives that enhance cultural tourism, ensuring that visitors leave with unforgettable experiences that highlight the best of our heritage and way of life.”
The inaugural function was led by Siddhi Upadhye. Shri. Deepak Narvekar, Dy General Manager, Marketing, GTDC proposed a vote of thanks on behalf of the Department of Tourism.
The day’s programs began with a Cooking Competition, where local participants showcased their culinary skills and celebrated Goan cuisine. This was followed by the Ashadh Sari – Bhakti Sangeet performance, featuring the melodious voices of Goan artists Hrishikesh Dhawlikar, a Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs Finalist, Vishwajeet Mestri, and Siddhi Surlakar. Their soulful renditions captivated the audience and set a serene tone for the evening.
The highlight of the day was the Abhangwari concert featuring the renowned singer Mahesh Kale. His mesmerizing performance left the audience spellbound, marking a perfect end to the first day of the festival. The cultural vibrancy and the Goan festivities were beautifully showcased through the day’s events, creating a memorable experience for all attendees. The event saw an exceptional turnout.
The Chikhal Kalo Mud Festival continues for two more days, aiming to celebrate and preserve Goa’s rich cultural heritage through various traditional and interactive events. On the 17th of July, attendees can look forward to a serene Bhajan Recital at the Shree Devki Krishna Temple. The festival will culminate on the 18th of July with the main festival of Chikhal Kalo will be celebrated. There will also be a Photography and Reel Making Competition, providing participants with the opportunity to capture and showcase the vibrant essence of the festival.
The Department of Tourism invites everyone to witness this unique festival and immerse themselves in the rich traditions and joyous culture of Goa.
