PANAJI: Chowgule Sports Club and Salgaocar Cricket Club delivered commanding performances in the final league round of the Goa Cricket Association Premier Division One-Day League, as the semi-final line-up was officially confirmed on Sunday.
The first semi-final will see Geno Sports Club, who topped Group 1, take on Margao Cricket Club, the runners-up from Group 2, on the morning of April 29. Later in the day, Chowgule Sports Club will face Salgaocar Cricket Club in the second semi-final clash.
At the GCA Academy ground in Porvorim, Chowgule Sports Club secured a convincing seven-wicket win over Dempo Cricket Club. Batting first, Dempo posted a competitive 283 for 8 in 40 overs, powered by a superb 160 off 112 balls from Abhinav Tej Rana. Contributions from Snehal Kauthankar and Jeevan Chittem added valuable runs, but Chowgule’s bowling, led by Felix Alemao’s four-wicket haul, kept the total within reach.
In response, Chowgule produced a dominant chase, reaching 288 for 3 in just 31.2 overs. Shivendra Bhujbal starred with an unbeaten 154 off 100 balls, while Madhur’s aggressive 81 provided strong support, ensuring a comfortable victory.
Meanwhile, at the GCA ground in Sanguem-Kotarli, Salgaocar Cricket Club edged out Panjim Gymkhana by a narrow five-run margin in a high-scoring encounter. Salgaocar posted 258 for 6, with Piyush Yadav scoring 76 and Yash Kasvankar remaining unbeaten on 72.
Panjim Gymkhana responded strongly, led by Mohit Redkar’s explosive 87 and Dishank Prabhu Misquin’s 60. However, despite the brisk chase, they were bowled out for 253 in 29 overs. Ruthvik Naik played a crucial role with four wickets, helping Salgaocar hold their nerve in the closing stages.
With momentum on their side, both Chowgule and Salgaocar head into the semi-finals as strong contenders for the title.
