Panaji: Chowgule Sports Club emerged champions of the Goa Premier Division League T20 tournament after defeating Geno Sports Club in a thrilling Super Over finale at the GCA ground in Sanguem-Cotarli. After both teams finished tied at 191 runs in regulation play, Chowgule held their nerve in the Super Over to clinch the title in dramatic fashion.
Batting first, Chowgule Sports Club put up a challenging total of 191 for 4 in 20 overs. Sanath Nevagi led the charge with a brilliant 82 off 52 deliveries, smashing nine sixes and a boundary in a powerful innings that laid the foundation for the total. Madhur Yadav played a steady supporting role with 59 off 47 balls, while Sanket Morajkar accelerated in the final overs with an unbeaten 24 from just nine deliveries.
Geno Sports Club responded aggressively in the chase and kept the contest alive throughout the innings. Veer Yadav played a sensational knock of 66 off only 23 balls, attacking the bowlers with fearless strokeplay, while captain Manthan Khutkar contributed a crucial half century. The match went down to the final over before Geno were bowled out for 191, forcing the game into a Super Over. Shubham Tari starred with the ball for Chowgule, claiming three important wickets.
The Super Over produced more drama as Geno struggled under pressure and managed only six runs while losing two wickets. Felix Alemao delivered a decisive over, picking up a wicket and effecting another dismissal through a run out to restrict the opposition.
Chasing seven runs for victory, Chowgule wasted no time. Captain Darshan Misal finished the contest in style by smashing a six, helping his side chase down the target in just three deliveries and secure the prestigious title.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by officials of the Goa Cricket Association along with several dignitaries and guests.
