SANKAHLI: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant today inspected the areas flooded due to incessant rains in various parts of Bicholim Taluka today.
CM also directed the officials to provide immediate assistance to people in distress.
“I inspected the areas flooded due to incessant rains in various parts of Bicholim Taluka today; 23 people in Harvalem have been rescued and brought to safety,” said CM Sawant
He further said that he has directed the officials to provide immediate assistance to people in distress.
Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane said that due to continuous and heavy rainfall, Mhadei has been overflowing and water has entered different parts of Valpoi.
“We have been awake the whole night getting in touch with our people, workers & supporters. Necessary directions have been issued to the collectors to have the Disaster Management team stationed at Sattari & Usgao,” said Vishwajit
Rane said that water has entered houses causing a lot of damage and it is very important for us to ensure our people’s safety.
“With the intervention of the Disaster Management Team, they will be shifted to safer locations. I have requested the concerned officials from the department of WRD, Fire Dept, PWD, Deputy Collector & Mamlatdar to monitor the situation closely,” Rane added
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday put Goa on red alert predicting extremely heavy rainfall for the next two days (July 22 and 23).
In its weather bulletin, IMD stated that extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 20 cms in a day is expected in the next two days.
“Considering the impact of active monsoon, red alert is issued for Goa’s districts on July 20 while the conditions for July 24 are being monitored,” IMD said.
