PANJIM: After imposing fine on around 14 tourists for non-wearing of masks in public places, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has decided to continue its drive against erring visitors, as per powers granted by the North District.
As government has opened up its borders for tourists, the district collectors have authorized concerned local bodies including panchayat and municipalities to take action against those violating the Health protocols laid down in wake of Covid pandemic.
“CCP has the right to fine people for not following the norms set by the government. Collectorate has given the authority to all the municipalities across the state to issue challans/fines to any person who is not wearing a mask or for not following the norms set by the state government during COVID-19. The collectorate has also send us an authorized challan book,” said CCP Mayor Uday Madkaikar speaking to goemkarponn.com
The Mayor also said that Goa is open for tourists but they should follow the procedures and norms set by the government during this pandemic and that CCP drive will continue as there is huge spike in COVID19 cases in the capital city.
He added “We welcome tourists in Goa but they should not flout the norms. It can be disastrous. As per State SOPs wearing of masks is mandatory.”
The CCP on Sunday has fined 15 tourists near Panjim Church Square for not wearing face masks.
The fine for not wearing masks is ₹ 100.
After five months of lockdown, Goa has seen huge influx of tourists this weekend after the State relaxed entry SOPs following Centre’s directive.
