PANAJI: Congress leader Pawan Khera said the party is open to a Grand Opposition Alliance in Goa, describing the Goa Forward Party’s call for opposition parties to unite as a point worth considering.
Responding to criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party over defections, Khera hit back at AAP, questioning the party’s record on the issue. He said those whose own party had seen several MPs leave were now lecturing Congress about defections.
Khera also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He claimed that questions had emerged from within the Election Commission regarding the exercise and alleged that the Supreme Court had not approved the use of Form 6 in the manner claimed by the Election Commission. He accused the BJP of “vote theft” and said Congress would oppose what it considers an unfair electoral process in Goa.
On the issue of drugs, Khera alleged that drug supply cannot continue without government support. He claimed that drug abuse is increasing in Goa and called for the state to work towards becoming drug-free.
Khera also raised the issue of employment, alleging that Goa’s educated youth have the necessary skills but are not getting adequate job opportunities. He criticised the government over employment opportunities for local youth while also highlighting concerns over the availability of drugs in the state.
