PANAJI: A newborn girl, believed to be seven-day-old, was found abandoned here on Monday in Miramar area near the ‘Manohar Parrikar Memorial’, the police said.
The newborn was spotted by a sweeper while carrying out cleaning duties in the area, following which she informed the police.
A team of police rushed to the spot and shifted the newborn to Goa Medical College.
According to the police, the newborn girl’s condition was “normal”.
“We are trying to identify the person(s) who abandoned the baby girl there. We are hopeful that we will get some leads,” a police officer said.
Meanwhile, opposition parties have criticised the Pramod Sawant-led BJP government in the state over the incident, pointing at the absence of unoperational CCTVs in the area.
“Abandoned Baby Girl & missing Hard-Disk of CCTV Camera at Miramar is a direct reflection of Defective BJP Government which functions with Empty Coffers & Hollow Promises. The entire Administration is operating on Imagination & Guesswork. My Prayers for Good Health of the Baby Girl,” stated Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.
Reacting to the Incident of an Infant Baby Girl found abandoned at Miramar & subsequent Report of the CCTV Cameras installed were without hard-disk, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao slammed the BJP Government for its failure to Save the Girl Child and provide Safety & Security to the Citizens.
The shocking incident of an approximately 10-day-old Girl Child being abandoned exposes the failure of the BJP Government which launched the Slogan of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao”. People still feel that a Girl is a Burden on the family. Unfortunately, the insensitive BJP Government stopped the “Laadli Laxmi” Scheme which earlier enabled the Girls to use the Money for their Academic Career or Professional Requirements, stated Yuri Alemao.
He said it is disgusting to note that the CCTV Cameras installed at the prime location on Miramar Beach are without Hard-Disks.
“This exposes complete failure of the Law Enforcement Authorities and the Corruption in the Government. This Incident will further embolden the Criminals to carry out their activities without any fear,” charged Yuri Alemao.
Abandoning a Girl Child should not be treated as an Isolated Incident. I demand that the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant should immediately convene a High Level Meeting of all the concerned Officials and Stake Holders such as NGO”s working for the Protection of Girl Child and Empowerment of Women so that such Incidents are not repeated again, demanded Yuri Alemao.
Chief Minister should also take a comprehensive Review of all the concerned Authorities responsible for providing Safety & Security to the Citizens and maintain Law & Order in the State. I also demand a High Level Inquiry of how the CCTV Cameras were installed without Hard-Disks, stated Yuri Alemao.
Meanwhile, Gao Forward party General Secretary Durgadas Kamat tweeted “So CCTV Cameras Withoout Hard Disk?”
“It’s high time that Govt conducts audit of the Smart City Works. We cannot allow Tax Payers money to go in the drains like this. Our appeal to CM
@DrPramodPSawant to intiate the Audit of the works!,” he said
