Pilar, Goa: The Independence Day Archery Competition 2026 concluded on a high note at Fr Agnel Central School, Pilar, with young archers from across Goa displaying impressive skill and precision in a day dedicated to sport and patriotism.
Organised by Fr Agnel Central School in collaboration with Zito Archery Club, the championship featured competitions across multiple distance categories for boys and girls. The event aimed to promote archery among young athletes while celebrating the spirit of India’s Independence Day.
David Fernandes emerged as the standout performer of the competition, winning the 30m Boys title and securing the Highest Score of the Day, earning a cash prize of ₹5,000. Other winners included Rashmi Dhauskar in 10m Girls, Gandhar Alavant in 10m Boys, Ashkenaz Mashelkar in 15m Girls, Bhavesh Bhandan in 15m Boys, Arushi Aglave in 30m Girls, Rebecca Fernandes in 40m Girls, Bhagyajyoti Naik in 50m Girls and Shripad Desai in 50m Boys.
The event also featured a felicitation ceremony for archers who represented Goa at the First Indoor Archery National Tournament 2026, recognising their achievements at the national level.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a Fancy Dress Competition was held alongside the championship, with students dressing up as India’s national leaders and freedom revolutionaries. The prizes were presented by chief guest Deepak Narvekar, while the programme was compered by Larrisa Fernandes.
The organisers thanked participants, parents, sponsors and volunteers for their support in making the Independence Day Archery Competition 2026 a grand success.
