CANACONA: A dead dolphin calf washed ashore at Agonda beach on Friday afternoon, drawing the attention of locals and visitors.
The carcass was found behind the village church and was first noticed by several people, including Lamani hawkers who frequent the beach for their trade.
The dolphin, believed to be a calf, was reportedly found in an advanced stage of decomposition. Dolphins are a popular attraction among tourists visiting the coastal belt, with boat rides organised during the tourist season to offer visitors a glimpse of the marine mammals as they leap out of and dive back into the sea.
Following the discovery, life-saver personnel reached the spot in a patrol jeep. According to sources, they retrieved the carcass with the assistance of beach-cleaning staff and buried it in a pit dug in the upper stretch of the beach sands.
