PANAJI: The 69th National School Games Beach Volleyball Championship for Under 17 boys and girls began on April 21, 2026, at Miramar Beach in Goa, with several teams delivering impressive performances on the opening day.
In the boys category, Gujarat registered one of the most dominant wins of the day, defeating CBSE in straight sets with a convincing margin. Tamil Nadu also showcased strong form, overcoming Punjab comfortably in two sets. Hosts Goa made a solid start to their campaign, securing a straight set victory against Puducherry, followed by another win later in the day against Andhra Pradesh.
One of the most closely contested matches in the boys division saw Odisha edge past Telangana in a thrilling three set encounter. After losing the first set, Odisha staged a comeback to clinch victory in a tightly fought decider. Punjab and Telangana also recorded wins in their respective matches, maintaining strong momentum early in the tournament.
In the girls category, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu both delivered commanding performances, defeating Telangana and Andhra Pradesh respectively in straight sets. Gujarat dominated their match against Dadra Nagar Haveli Daman and Diu, while Puducherry secured a hard fought three set win over Odisha.
Goa’s girls team added to the home side’s positive start by defeating Andhra Pradesh in straight sets. Delhi and Punjab also emerged victorious in their matches, while Telangana maintained consistency with a comfortable win over CBSE.
The opening day featured a mix of one sided victories and closely fought contests, setting the tone for an exciting championship ahead. With teams from across the country competing, the tournament is expected to intensify over the coming days as players battle for top honours on the sands of Miramar Beach.
