Valpoi: In a major development aimed at resolving long-standing water supply issues in Dongurli village, MLA Dr. Deviya Rane on Thursday inaugurated a clean drinking water facility sourced from the Dabose Water Project. This marks the end of a 25-year wait for the villagers, who had relied on borewells and water tankers for their daily needs.
The project inauguration was attended by Zilla Panchayat Member Devyani Gavas, Sarpanch Nilesh Parwar, Panchayat Members Suchita Gaonkar, Sarita Gavaskar, Tanaya Gavaskar, Vinayak Gaonkar, Anushka Gavas, and Subhash Gawade. Also present were Assistant Engineers Madan Desai (Water Supply) and Zhilbarao Desai (Roads), as well as engineers Rohidas Naik and Pankaj Gaonkar.
MLA Rane, addressing the gathering, said that the borewell system used for decades had become inoperative, forcing the villagers to rely entirely on water tankers for the past three years. Responding to public demands, permanent tap-based water supply has now been initiated through the Dabose project.
“With this, our promise to provide clean drinking water has been fulfilled,” said Dr. Rane. She added that community cooperation is essential for sustained village development.
Highlighting infrastructure improvements, Rane said that the long-pending road asphalting issue in the village has also been resolved through the provision of a hot mix asphalting facility. Plans are underway to address frequent power outages by laying underground power lines.
She further assured the villagers that the demand for repairing the local temple’s roof will be fulfilled soon. “Temples are centers of unity and cultural identity. Their development reflects the spirit of the village,” she said.
In a major infrastructure update, MLA Rane also announced that the ongoing 15 MLD capacity Morle Water Supply Project is expected to be completed within a year. Once operational, the project will serve four panchayats and reduce the load on the existing Dabose water system. As a result, the capacity of the Dabose project is expected to increase by 10 percent.
Local Panch Member Suchita Gaonkar thanked MLA Rane and department officials for their efforts. “After 25 years, our village finally has access to clean drinking water. We hope the remaining issues will be addressed soon,” she said.
