Porvorim: Following the protests across the State, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has demanded that the entire draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) has to be trashed and drafted afresh.
Khaunte said that the draft CZMP is badly drafted and is destroying tourism, which is mainstay of Goan economy.
“Not just 2 but all the Heritage sites at Old Goa should be protected by inclusion in CZMP. This awfully trumped up CZMP is not just destroying Coastal habitats but also Heritage & Tourism, the mainstay of Goan economy,” Khaunte said.
He further added, “The whole CZMP should be trashed & drafted afresh.”
The State government said it will continue its exercise to prepare a draft Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) despite what state Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral said was “politically motivated protest” by a section of people in the state.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant, reacting to the protests outside the venues of the public hearing for the CZMP said all opportunities were given to the people to raise their objections and suggestions on the right platforms but people preferred to speak outside the venue.
