CANACONA: St. Anne’s Institute Agonda defeated St. Anthony H/S, Galgibhag 4-1 to win the maiden U-14 Girls Football Championship organized by DSYA.
In the finals played at Devabhaga Grounds on Wednesday, St. Anne’s institute Agonda scored the first goal of the match by Gunaid Fernandes, from a beautiful corner kick. Aanya Fernandes scored the second goal to take a lemon break with 2-0 ahead.
In the second half St. Anthony, Galgibaga combined well and scored one goal to reduce the margin by 2-1. However, St. Anne’s tally was yet again increased with yet another goal from Aanya Fernandes while Cheryll Fernandes added one more goal in the dying minutes of the match, 4th goal for St. Anne’s Institute, Agonda to win the match comfortably and became the maiden champion at the U-14 Girls Football Championship at Canacona Taluka level.
St.Anne’s Institute, Agonda defeated Government High school, Gowal-Khola 1-0 to win the U-17 (Girls) Canacona taluka Football Championship organized by DSYA. In an almost a derby match, Sayli Pagi scored the only goal of the Championship match to give much needed win for the well-playing St. Anne’s Institute, Agonda.
