CANACONA: A group of concerned locals met the Dy. Collector and voiced their serious concerns of various problems including defunct functioning of various health facilities, plaguing the only government hospital in Canacona.
In a meeting with the Dy. Collector Madhu Narvekar, residents have demanded the visit of Health Minister Vishwajeet to inspect Community Health Centre (CHC) and discuss the issues regarding health services in Canacona.
People alleged that there is a grave shortage of doctors in this only government hospital of Canacona and people are suffering for this shortage. Even the lab technicians are irregular, and the patient’s blood test do not happen early in the morning.
The group of Canacona people represented members of the Canaocna Health Welfare Committee (CHWC) raised various issues with Deputy Collector Madhu Narvekar intitially demanding that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane should visit the Canaocna hospital and discuss the issues related to the health of Canacona residents.
Canacona Mamlatdar Jitendra Bugde, CHC Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavaris, Canacona BDO Savio Carvalho, Medical Officer Dr. Diwakarji Velip were present alongwith Dy. Collector Narvekar and took part in discussion.
CHWC Chairman Diego da Silva, Honorat Fernandes, Natavidade De Sa, Sanjay Komarpant, Anil Bhagat, listed out various other problems people as patients are facing about and the inconvenience it cause in Canacona CHC Hospital.
One informed, ‘the patients do not get the ambulance service properly. When, hospital ambulances are always kept in break down mode, and when ambulance is available Drivers plays truant and disappear, even to the extent of not responding to the calls of Doctor on duty. CHWC members informed that the current situation in this hospital is very bad and badly managed, and with action non-cooperation of Doctor-on-duty or even the medical staff. patients are made to run from pilar to post for every thing.
Concerned CHWC members also made a request in the meeting that the Dy Collector or even Mamlatdar should pay a surprise visit to investigate the anarchy going on in CHC Canacona. Some prominent residents Shirish Pai, CMC Councilors Simon Rebelo, Sara Naikdesai, Amita Pagi, besides John Barreto, Sukumar, Sebastian Fernandes, Peter, former Councilor Stanley Gracias, Sagar Nagersekar Ervil Barretto, Caitano Fernandes and many others were were present in this meeting.
