On Thursday after the arrest of the two accomplices, the mastermind of the Margao murder Mustafa Sheikh surrendered before the police which raised many eyebrows.
On Wednesday afternoon, a Margao-based jeweler Swapnil Walke was brutally shot and stabbed to death which led to outrage from citizens on social media.
The Crime Branch, led by PI Dattaguru Sawant, had arrested Omkar Patil, late evening on Wednesday, who had committed theft of Bolero from Dona Paula used for the murder.
Within hours, Crime Branch was successful in second arrest of Edson Gonsalves.
While the Crime Branch, Margao Police and other agencies continued their manhunt for Mustafa Sheikh he meekly surrendered at Margao police station.
Sources now tell goemkarponn.com that the Mustafa Sheikh, who was involved in a murder case earlier, feared for his life as he felt the Goa police would encounter him like Vikas Dubey in Uttar Pradesh.
Sources say that the Mustafa was on Margao police radar and was traced at nearby Margao.
“As police continued search for him, he realized he was being tracked and escaped in KTC bus only just before the police could reach the spot,” the source said.
He further added, the cops immediately inquired with the KTC depot and got details of bus conductor and driver phones and informed them about the accused.
“Just then the accused jumped off the bus and ran away and later took a rickshaw to reach the Margao police station,” sources said.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the accused Mustafa feared for his life and thought that due to social media pressure the police may encounter him.
The source, however, said there were no such plans or orders of encounter. “It was just trending on social media,” officials said.
Sources also informed the case has been transferred to Crime Branch.
