PONDA: In relation to an income certificate that was obtained by faking Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) Yogiraj Gosavi’s signature and the municipal council’s stamp, Ponda police detained Ponda Councillor Shivanand Sawant on Thursday.
In this regard, Silvanagar-Ponda resident Sadanand Prabhugaonkar had previously been taken into custody by the police.
When Sadananda Prabhugaonkar applied for an income certificate, PMC officials found that he had attached a previous phony income certificate. After conducting an investigation and discovering that the document’s signature was fraudulent, PMC Chief Officer Yogiraj Gosavi filed a police complaint.
Inspector Vijaynath Kavalekar of the Ponda Police Department learned during the investigation that the Goa Medical College Hospital in Bambolim had utilized a phony income certificate.
Sadanand Prabhugaonkar told the police that PMC Councillor Shivanand Sawant had given him the income certificate when they asked him about it.
Sawant was subsequently taken into custody by police on Tuesday. Police Inspector Vijaynath Kavlekar is directing PSI Ashish Varip’s investigation into the crime.
