New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday refuted media reports claiming that Col Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh—both prominent figures in India’s Operation Sindoor press briefings—would be featured as campaign faces for the party.
The report had suggested that the BJP was planning a women-centric campaign to mark 11 years of the Modi government on June 9, with the two officers representing the initiative. However, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya dismissed the claim, labeling it “Fake News” in a post on X.
“The BJP has no plans to use either Col Sofia Qureshi or Wing Commander Vyomika Singh as campaign faces,” Malviya asserted. He clarified that statements made by BJP Minority Morcha president Jamal Siddiqui had been misrepresented.
“Siddiqui merely highlighted Col Qureshi as an example of an empowered Muslim woman. His comments were limited in scope and not indicative of any official campaign strategy,” Malviya added.
The BJP emphasized that any such interpretation was a misreading of Siddiqui’s remarks and reiterated that the party has no intention of involving the officers in political promotions.
