SALIGAO: Saligao Police have arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife at their residence in Mudda Waddo, Saligao, with initial investigations pointing to a prolonged family dispute and financial strain as the motive behind the crime.
The case was registered at Saligao Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Vittal Ramappa Lamani (32), a resident of Naika Waddo, Calangute, originally from Gadag, Karnataka.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Rukmini Vinod Rathod (36). Her body has been preserved at the GMC Morgue, Bambolim, for further legal formalities. An inquest and post-mortem examination are scheduled to be conducted.
The accused, Vinod Balchandra Rathod, a resident of Mudda Waddo, Saligao, was arrested on February 27 at 10.26 pm. He has been sent for forensic medical examination and will be produced before JMFC Mapusa seeking police custody remand.
Police conducted a scene of offence panchanama in the presence of a forensic team and preserved necessary exhibits from the spot.
Initial investigation has revealed that frequent domestic disputes coupled with financial difficulties between the husband and wife allegedly led to the fatal incident.
Further investigation is being carried out by PI Dinesh D. Gadekar of Saligao Police Station under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim and senior district officials.
