PANAJI: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that a consultant will be appointed for the proposed film city at Loliem who will have to evaluate the feasibility of the project first.
“For film city, we have started land acquisition process. We will appoint consultant for the project. A consultant will evaluate the proposal and let us know if it is suitable for film city,” Sawant said.
In a direct and hands-down retort to the Loliem Communidade, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and Canacona MLA Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, residents of Loliem-Polem successfully passed an unanimous resolution at the Sunday’s opposing any ‘Film-City’ project at Bhagwati Plateau or any non-traditional developments in the village.
Speaking further, CM said that sand extraction licences will not be issued by Goa govt till such time that National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) submits geological, geophysical and biological study reports of the rivers to the Govt.
“As the matter is before the High Court, if licences are given before receiving the reports they will have no legal sanctity,” said Sawant.
He went on to inform that he has asked the police to resolve the issues related to Goan vehicles going to other states to bring sand from there and vehicle owners from other states insisting on supplying sand through their own vehicles.
Incidentally, NIO has completed geological, geophysical and biological study of four rivers – Mandovi, Zuari, Chapora and Tiracol.
