Canacona: In a dramatic incident that highlighted the dangers of driver fatigue, a vehicle loaded with fish veered off the road and crashed into a tree in Maxem, Loliem, Canacona, on Friday morning. The accident occurred around 8:55 AM, just hours after another fish-laden vehicle had hit a newly erected road divider at Gulem.
The vehicle, bearing the registration number MH08W3785, was en route from Ratnagiri to Kerala, with a planned stop in Karwar. According to reports, the driver, who had been driving continuously since midnight, dozed off, losing control of the vehicle. The vehicle’s right side plunged into a trench before coming to rest against a roadside tree. Fortunately, the tree prevented the vehicle from hitting an electricity pole, which could have led to a much more severe accident.
Despite the significant damage to the vehicle, including a broken axle, no one was injured in the mishap. However, the incident caused substantial delays as another vehicle had to be arranged to transfer the fish and continue the journey to Kerala. This incident follows a similar accident on Thursday morning, where a fish-laden pickup hit a road divider at Gulem during road widening works.
