PANAJI: Fisheries Department has announced annual fishing ban from June 1 to July 31, both days inclusive.
During this period, in view of the need to conserve fish, the government has prohibited fishing by fishing vessels which use mechanical means of propulsion and trawl-net and purse-seine net along the sea coast of the State of Goa and the territorial waters of the State of Goa.
Fishing by registered motorised canoes using gill nets only, and fitted with outboard or inboard motors, of up to 10 HP capacity, as a means of propulsion, are not prohibited.
Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halarnkar said that the uniform ban is for 61 days, which will be lifted in August.
The minister said that the ban would be imposed in the state and a strict watch would be maintained to ensure that there is no violation.
