Raia: Fr Agnelo YSC Paroda stormed into the semifinals of the 52nd Custodio Memorial Football Tournament with a convincing 4-1 victory against Betalbatim Sporting Club. The tournament is being organised by Raia Sporting Club and the match was played at the Panchayat Ground in Raia.
Paroda made an early breakthrough with Jesvan Fernandes netting in the 8th minute despite the wet and slippery conditions caused by continuous rain. Betalbatim nearly equalised when Dickson Rogtao unleashed a powerful long-range shot, but Paroda’s goalkeeper produced a fine save to keep the score 1-0 going into halftime.
After the break, Betalbatim mounted pressure and managed to draw level in the 41st minute through Nayab Khan. However, Paroda quickly regained the lead just two minutes later when Sowell Fernandes fired home a brilliant strike from the edge of the box. Betalbatim continued to press for another equaliser, but their forwards couldn’t capitalise on key chances.
Paroda sealed the win with two quick goals — Livan Clement in the 55th minute and Savlon Fernandes in the 57th — ending Betalbatim’s hopes of a comeback.
Sowell Fernandes was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding performance and was presented with the award by club member Cosme Oliver.
