New Delhi: In a surprising turn of events during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a broadcast mishap has sparked a new controversy, particularly affecting the highly anticipated tournament. On Thursday, during the live broadcast of the India vs Bangladesh match in Dubai, the tournament logo displayed on the screen omitted Pakistan’s name, despite the country being the official host of the event.
The incident has drawn significant attention and criticism, especially since the logo had correctly featured Pakistan’s name in previous matches, including the tournament opener between Pakistan and New Zealand. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with this omission and has sought an official explanation from the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to the ICC, the omission was due to a technical glitch. An ICC spokesperson stated, “The issue occurred due to a graphics-related technical issue, which will be rectified from tomorrow. It was not possible to change the logo during the match.” However, the PCB remains unconvinced by this explanation, given that broadcast graphics are typically prepared well in advance.
This controversy comes at a sensitive time, with India and Pakistan set to face off in a highly anticipated match in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. The match is already under scrutiny due to ongoing tensions between the two teams and the compromise that has seen India’s matches, including potential finals, being held at neutral venues rather than in Pakistan.
Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has weighed in on the upcoming match, suggesting that Pakistan may have an advantage due to their familiarity with the conditions in Dubai. “I actually think Pakistan has an advantage because they have a base in Dubai. They have played a lot of cricket there and understand the conditions well,” Singh said during a program on JioHotstar[Source Article].
The ICC has assured that all future games will feature the correct branding, but the PCB will be closely monitoring the situation to ensure no further discrepancies occur.
