PANAJI: The big talks in Goa Legislative Assembly and outside on rights and reservations for Goans seem to be all but political stunts as a regional party is all set to join Mamata Didi’s Trinamool Congress.
It is being rumoured that the chief of the regional outfit is in the final round of talks with the I-PAC head Prashant Kishore and the alliance could be finalised in a couple of days.
Initially, only the MLA’s of the party would quit and join TMC, and the party will continue with its symbol, said a source.
It is being said that the chief of the regional outfit, who always spoke of 80 p.c reservations for Goans in the Industries, would be named the Chief Minister’s candidate of teh West Bengal party.
The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would be in Goa to finalise the alliance on November 28.
It is being said that she would be in Goa for two days and is likely to meet several prominent leaders.
In all, four to five MLA would join the TMC in the coming days – three from the regional outfit, one independent MLA from Sanguem Prasad Gaonkar and another MLA is in talks with TMC.
Earlier this month, former Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro joined the TMC along with his supporters.
Interestingly, the same chief of the regional outfit had cautioned Goans and the local media for supporting the Aam Aadmi Party.
The politician from South Goa was desperate for an alliance with Congress but since P Chidambaram and GPCC President Girish Chodankar did not show any interest has now decided to call Didi.
“Our fundamental objective must be to defeat the BJP at any cost, and we have to become street fighters on every Goan street to achieve that. Narakasura (the mythical demon king) has to be destroyed, and we need all the help we can get,” the leader said recently.
“For the last 2 years, we have been rooting forcefully for a united Team Goa to challenge and defeat the corrupt anti-Goan BJP before it destroys Goa completely. Unfortunately, it has fallen on deaf ears with the principal opposition party (Congress) abdicating its duty and responsibility to heed the call or at least come halfway to fulfil this strong desire of the people to throw out the BJP,” he said.
