BICHOLIM: Following four blasts in the factory on Wednesday night that rocked several houses in Bicholim, the locals have demanded immediate action against the iron smelting furnace.
On Friday, Maem MLA Premedra Shet and Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye examined the rolling mill and assessed the situation. It was discovered that the officers and workers at the factory lacked official documentation and certifications after discussions with them.
MLA Shetye enquired about the general management of the establishment by getting in touch with representatives of Factories and Boilers and the Goa Pollution Control Board in this regard.
The locals have demanded action against the unit if it does not ensure their safety, and government officials have given the company a show cause notice. We don’t yet know what caused the explosions.
MLA Shet also vented his resentment at the plant’s poor management and blasted the unit owners for treating their employees like second-class citizens. In order to take action against those accountable for any errors, he insisted on a full investigation into the incident and requested the preparation of a report outlining the mishap.
Following Thursday’s incident, the locals expressed their fear and insisted that the rolling mill not be granted a license if it poses a risk to the lives of the local population. They implored the MLAs to implement policies that offer the highest level of safety precautions.
