PANAJI: Amidst ongoing protest by the resident doctors at the State-run Goa Medical College and Hospital seeking justice for Kolkata rape and murder victim, the Goa Association of Residents Doctors put across their list of security measures to be implemented at all government hospitals with a special focus on women health professionals.
The doctors association on Tuesday handed over a list of 20 demands to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane who assured them to take up the matter before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and also place it before the cabinet for necessary decision and implementation.
The doctors, who have been protesting since last Friday, demanding a special central law to check violence against healthcare workers following the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata, said that they will consider withdrawing the ongoing protest by 5.00 pm today based on the assurance of the Minister.
Rane said that the doctors have raised several safety issues like the installation of more numbers of CCTVs, deploying security persons, special focus on the safety of female health professionals and other basic infrastructure upgradation across all government run hospitals.
Rane said that the government will look into their demands in a positive way while adding that the law will be amended to provide safety to medical professionals from violence and other atrocities.
The Minister also said that a dedicated Female Health Officer will be appointed to handle all the issues concerning female medical staff and to address the same.
“I reaffirm our relentless commitment to the safety and dignity of our medical professionals. We are accelerating the implementation of enhanced security measures at GMC, including CCTV installations and stronger legal protections. We hear doctors’ concerns and stand in solidarity with them,” he added.
Minister said that doctors are the backbone of our healthcare system, and your safety is paramount.
“Together, we will create a secure environment where doctors can focus on their noble duty of saving lives without fear. Their dedication inspires us and we pledge to match it with decisive action to protect you,” the Minister said.
