Goa Badminton Association (GBA) President Manoj Patil and Secretary Praveen Shenoy attended the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) at Guwahati, Assam on July 21, where they proposed the establishment of a Regional Badminton Academy in Goa and the development of Goa as a hub for National and International badminton events.
Highlighting Goa’s potential, it was suggested to host the prestigious BWF World Seniors (Masters) event in Goa in 2025 or 2026, an event that attracts over 10,000 veteran players globally.
The Goa Government too has expressed keen interest in supporting such major sporting events. BAI President Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma recommended conducting consultative meetings with the Goa Government to advance these initiatives.
Additionally, GBA engaged in an extensive discussion with Chief National Coach Pullela Gopichand to gather his insights on grassroots training and fostering a substantial talent pool in Goa.
